Frozen breaded fish and prawn snacks unit

This unit turns fresh fish and small prawns into frozen, ready-to-fry snacks: fish fingers, fish nuggets, prawn cutlets, crumb-coated prawns and fish kebabs. Products are shaped, coated, quickly frozen and packed in cartons for kitchens and in small packs for home freezers.

Seafood is Visakhapatnam's one-district-one-product, yet a good share of the catch landed at its fishing harbour still leaves raw or frozen whole. Cooked and crumb-coated packs sell for much more than raw fish. NABARD's 2023-24 credit plan puts food and agro processing credit potential in the district at ₹244.07 cr and calls it a promising sector that banks have barely tapped.

You need an FSSAI food licence, a clean processing hall with a blast freezer (a very fast, very cold freezer) and cold store, staff trained in hygiene, and tie-ups with fish traders at the harbour. The hard parts are keeping the same taste and size in every batch, finding steady supply when the catch falls and during the yearly fishing ban, and paying for cold storage and freezer space in shops. Big frozen-food brands already sell similar snacks, so lead with fresh local fish.

Sell first to bars, restaurants, caterers and hotels in Visakhapatnam, then to frozen-food distributors in Hyderabad and other cities. Your own brand in supermarket freezers can come later, once quality is steady.
