Lifting gear supply, testing and certification shop

This business supplies wire rope slings, chain slings, webbing belts, shackles and hooks, and runs a proof-load test bed (a machine that pulls each item past its working load to prove it is safe). It issues test certificates and inspects gear on site.

Visakhapatnam has two big cargo ports, a shipyard, a naval dockyard, the steel plant, a refinery and many engineering units. All of them lift heavy loads every day, and safety rules for factories and docks require lifting gear to be examined by a competent person (an approved tester) at fixed intervals. NABARD's 2023-24 credit plan puts MSME credit potential in the district at ₹4,443.79 cr, its largest single sector.

You need an engineer who can be recognised as a competent person, by the state factories department for factory work and by the central dock safety office for work inside the ports. You also need a calibrated test bed and suppliers of certified rope and fittings. The hard part is trust: a failed sling can kill, so your testing and paperwork must be strict. Some testers already work here, and big buyers take months to add a new supplier.

Start with stevedoring firms (companies that load and unload ships), crane hire companies and contractors working inside the steel plant and ports. Then add factories around the city.
