Kurung Kumey is sparsely populated with dense hill forest, and its Nyishi communities hold deep traditional knowledge of medicinal plants, wild mushrooms and aromatic herbs. The forest produce exists, but commercial aggregation does not — material trickles out raw to plains traders at the bottom of the chain. This cluster organises a few dozen harvesting households around the district's mixed hill horticulture base and adds the missing first-mile step: sustainable wild collection, solar/shade drying, cleaning, grading and packing of forest produce for Ayurvedic manufacturers, natural-cosmetic brands and gourmet-wellness retail.
The honest constraints are real. Overharvest permanently destroys the resource, so harvest calendars and quotas are core discipline, not paperwork. Forest-department clearances gate medicinal-plant trade strictly, and Ayurvedic-grade buyers demand clean, identity-verified, low-moisture material — so a trained grader and a moisture meter matter more than machinery. Hill logistics from Koloriang are slow, and the first buyer commitment is the hardest part. Start with two well-understood species and one anchor buyer before broadening, and keep payback patient.
