Kokrajhar is the headquarters of the Bodoland Territorial Region and the heart of Bodo handloom — distinctive Aronai scarves and Dokhona wraps woven by a large base of women. Today most cloth sells locally as raw lengths with no brand or finishing premium. This venture draws on the district's Aronai and Dokhona weaving skills and takes the work all the way from yarn to finished, branded textiles: a producer-cooperative-backed brand commissions a curated range (scarves, stoles, dress fabric, cushion and table sets), finishes and labels them, and sells direct to customers online plus to ethnic-wear and North-East gifting retailers.
The value lives in design direction, consistent quality, and authentic Bodo storytelling — not in adding looms. The hard parts: maintaining genuine Bodo motifs and weaver fairness is central to the brand, dye and weave consistency across many home-looms is difficult to hold, and shipping from BTR adds logistics cost and lead time. Buyers are conscious-fashion shoppers, designers sourcing handloom, and diaspora gifters. Start with the highest-margin scarf/stole line before widening into apparel.
