What the plan promotes

• ▸Crop production dominates the plan at ₹720.32cr — paddy (autumn 6,176 MT, winter 342,589 MT, summer 275,499 MT), jute (24,957 MT), rape & mustard, wheat and banana are the main crops.
• ▸Dairy is the single biggest allied opportunity at ₹74.15cr, followed by poultry ₹65.70cr and sheep/goat/piggery ₹38.30cr — livestock adds supplementary income for many rural households.
• ▸NABARD has already formed seven FPCs in the district — one in fishery, one in piggery, and the rest in vegetables, rice and maize.
• ▸Farm mechanization (₹56.41cr) is the top thrust area for 2022-23, paired with capacity building for farmers on crop diversification and saturation of KCC coverage.
• ▸Fishery potential of ₹16.96cr sits alongside strong existing capacity — 126 fish seed farms and roughly 39,078 MT of fish production in the district.
• ▸Horticultural crops such as coconut, arecanut, banana and lemon give a plantation & horticulture potential of ₹29.71cr.

Gaps the plan names

• ▸Lack of irrigation facilities — very little of the available area is actually irrigated; more minor-irrigation projects and conjunctive use of ground and surface water from the 10 rivers and 379 wetlands are needed.
• ▸Lack of power supply and poor road networks holding back farm and enterprise growth.
• ▸Lack of marketing facilities — Market Yards and Rural Godowns need to be built at key rural market places, ideally on a public-private partnership basis; none of the PACS have scientific warehouses.
• ▸Crop destruction by elephants damaging farmer incomes and repayment capacity.
• ▸Lack of quality extension services, soil testing and seed testing facilities.
