Champa is a noted Kosa (tussar) silk centre and Kosa is the district's ODOP, but raw cocoons and unbranded cloth carry the value out. A reeling-and-weaving cluster builds branded Kosa saris for the heritage-silk market.

Champa is a historic Kosa (tussar) silk weaving centre and Kosa is the district's ODOP product, yet much of the value leaves as raw cocoons or unbranded greige cloth. A cooperative organising the existing weaver base — cocoon reeling, weaving, dyeing, and a GI-conscious branded sari and dupatta line — turns cocoons into woven, branded saris itself and keeps the value the trade currently pockets. This stands on the district's Kosa silk weaving (ODOP) cluster and the wild-silk reputation Champa already carries in the heritage-textile market.
The hard parts: tussar reeling from wild cocoons takes real skill and yields irregular yarn, so reeling quality and grading are the heart of the work; cocoon supply must be contracted against competing demand from other Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand weaving belts; and branding against established tussar labels is a slow build that lives or dies on finish and provenance. Capex covers reeling and weaving equipment, dyeing, inventory, packaging, and working capital; NSP funds the silk-cluster build. Buyers: heritage-silk D2C shoppers, metro boutiques, designers sourcing tussar, and festival-season wholesalers.
