This small unit buys fresh dung from dairies, presses it into logs with a simple machine, dries the logs in the sun and sells them as fuel. Dung that is not made into logs is composted and sold in bags to plant nurseries.
Ghoga, a village in the Narela part of this district, has one of Delhi's planned dairy colonies, and the Delhi High Court has ordered the dairies at Bhalswa to be shifted there, a move that is still being worked out. Dairies must clear dung every day, and a regular buyer nearby helps them. Delhi's cremation grounds burn a great deal of wood, and dung logs are already used in place of wood at cremation grounds in several Indian cities. They are also used in havans and Holika Dahan fires.
You need a log-making machine, a covered shed and an open yard for drying, and a steady deal with a few dairies. The hard part is drying. In the monsoon, logs dry slowly and can rot, so build up dry stock in the hot months. Cremation grounds are run by trusts and the city corporation, so winning them takes patient visits and reliable supply.
Sell logs to cremation ground managers, temples, havan samagri shops and gaushalas, and sell compost to plant nurseries and home gardeners.
