Fire extinguisher refilling and fire-safety upkeep for factories

This is a workshop that refills, pressure-tests and services fire extinguishers, and looks after hose reels, alarms and emergency lights in small factories. You sell yearly upkeep contracts, tag every extinguisher with its last service date, and train factory staff in basic fire drills.

You need a small workshop in a commercial or industrial area, refilling machines for powder and carbon dioxide extinguishers, a pressure-testing pump, a small goods vehicle and GST registration. Take a recognised fire-safety course and learn the Indian standard (BIS code) for looking after extinguishers. The hard part is that many owners see fire safety as a cost and act only before an inspection, so they bargain hard and cheap refillers undercut you. Never skip a pressure test: a badly refilled extinguisher can fail in a real fire.
