This workshop makes and mends the wooden and bamboo frames, sunbeds and tables that beach shacks use. It also sends crews to put shacks up when the season starts and take them down before the rains, and keeps each owner's kit in a dry godown through the monsoon.
North Goa is the heart of the state's beach tourism, and shacks line its coast from Candolim, Calangute and Baga to Anjuna, Morjim and Arambol. Under the state's shack rules they are temporary structures that must come down before each monsoon and go up again for the next season, so the same work comes round every year. Salt air, sun and rain also wear out wood, cloth and metal fast, which brings steady repair jobs.
You need a shed with woodworking and welding tools, a pickup truck, a godown that stays dry in the rains and skilled carpenters. Treat timber and bamboo against rot and termites. The hard part is that the work comes in two short rushes, and it rests on the shack licences the tourism department gives out, which policy changes or court cases can delay. Many owners also use carpenters they know.
Visit licensed shack owners before the season and offer one price for building, taking down and storing their shack. Then finish on the date you promise.
