This business runs small-group day trips from the beach belt into the cashew villages during feni season. Guests walk through a cashew orchard, see ripe cashew apples crushed, fermented and distilled at a village still, eat a home-cooked Goan lunch, and buy nuts straight from the grower.
Cashew and feni are the two products North Goa is best known for, and feni carries a GI tag. Cashew feni is distilled only from late February to mid-May, during the busy end of the beach season, when Calangute, Baga, Anjuna and Candolim are still full of visitors. A trip inland shows them a side of Goa they do not see from the beach.
You need a tour business registered with the state tourism department, a hired tourist vehicle with a licensed driver, insurance, and a guide who speaks Konkani and English. The hard part is people, not money: you depend on distiller families being happy to host guests, so pay them a fair share for each one. Any tasting of spirits must follow excise rules and happen only where the distiller holds the right licence. Outside feni season, run village food walks and trips to Mapusa's Friday market.
