This home-scale unit breeds easy freshwater aquarium fish such as guppies, mollies, platies and goldfish in cement and glass tanks, and sells them with water plants to aquarium shops and hobbyists.

You need a shaded shed or backyard with a steady water supply, tanks, air pumps, a power backup and a separate tank to keep new or sick fish apart. The skill is in water quality, feeding and spotting disease early. The hard part is losses: a long power cut or a bad batch of water can kill a whole tank overnight, and each fish sells for little, so you earn only with steady volume and a few loyal buyers.
Start by supplying pet and aquarium shops in Mapusa and Panaji, then take larger orders from shops in Belagavi and Kolhapur.
