This unit buys cashew feni from small village stills, blends and rests it in wooden casks, and bottles it under its own label. A tasting room with an old pot still on show lets visitors learn how the spirit is made and buy bottles to take home.
Feni is one of South Goa's two ODOP (One District One Product) products and carries a GI (Geographical Indication) tag, which protects it as a Goan spirit. NABARD's 2023-24 credit plan for the district records cashewnut on 19,460 ha (hectares), and cashew apples from these orchards feed traditional distilling across the hinterland. Yet most feni is still sold loose or in plain bottles at local rates, so a well-made, well-labelled bottle can stand out.
You need several licences from the Goa Excise Department for bottling, storage, sale and serving, plus label approval and FSSAI rules for liquor. The hard part is money and consistency. Cashew feni is distilled only in the cashew season, so you must buy a year's stock in a few months, then hold it while it rests. Every distiller's batch tastes different, so careful tasting and blending matter. Selling outside Goa means meeting each state's own liquor rules, which is slow.
