This business owns a small set of farm machines and rents them out with trained operators: power tillers and a rice transplanter for monsoon planting, a small harvester and thresher for the paddy harvest, and brush cutters to clear undergrowth in cashew orchards before the nuts fall.
NABARD's 2023-24 credit plan for South Goa lists paddy on 19,486 ha (hectares) and cashewnut on 19,460 ha among the district's main crops. The same plan notes that the average landholding is only 1.17 ha and most farmers are marginal or small, so few can afford their own machines. It puts farm mechanisation credit at ₹40.00 cr. Farm workers are hard to find in Goa, and many paddy fields now lie fallow.
You need a covered shed, a pick-up truck or tractor to move machines, a mechanic's skills, and operators you can trust. The hard part is that the work is seasonal and bunched: everyone wants a transplanter in the same few weeks, and machines stand idle for months. Wet, small and scattered fields also wear machines out fast.
