This unit collects polyester fabric cut pieces, rejected cloth and yarn waste, sorts it by colour and material, and runs it through cutting and opening machines that tear the cloth back into loose fibre. The fibre is baled and sold as filling for cushions, pillows, quilts, soft toys and furniture padding, or pressed into felt.
Surat is India's largest centre for man-made fabric, with dense clusters of powerlooms, dyeing and printing houses, embroidery machines and garment units. All of them leave waste behind, and much of it is sold as scrap for very little. Working inside this cluster keeps your raw material close and cheap to collect.
You need a well-ventilated shed, a cutter, an opening line, a baling press, a strong power connection and consent from the state pollution control board. The hard parts are sorting and safety. Waste mixed with cotton, sequins or zari thread spoils the fibre, so set clear rules with your suppliers. Loose fibre catches fire easily, so invest in extinguishers and clean wiring, and ban smoking on site. Your selling price is also capped by the price of new fibre and by bigger recyclers in other states, so keep running costs low.
