NABARD's 2023-24 credit plan for Vadodara makes farm mechanisation the biggest farm term-loan line, at 230.75 crore, and says private players need to invest in it. Farmers in the district grow cotton, wheat, paddy, tuvar and castor, and each crop needs its own tools. Vadodara also has a deep engineering and fabrication base, so laser-cut steel parts, machining, heat treatment and skilled welders are close at hand. A workshop in a purely farming district would struggle to find these.
You need a shed near a taluka town such as Dabhoi, Karjan or Padra, welding sets, a drill and lathe, cutting and bending tools, a painting area, and Udyam and GST registration. The hard part is competition and seasons. Established implement makers elsewhere in Gujarat sell at low prices, and demand bunches up just before sowing, so plan stock and cash for the slow months. Many farmers buy with state subsidy, which usually needs tested and approved models, so learn the listing rules early.
Sell through farm-machine rental centres, farmer producer companies and village tractor dealers. Build your name through quick repairs at harvest time.
