This is a fruit processing unit that turns ripe guava into pulp and sells it to makers of juice, ice cream, jam and bakery fillings. The fruit is washed and sorted, run through a pulper (a machine that strips out seeds and skin), heated to kill germs, then packed in cans or frozen in pouches and drums. When guava is out of season, the same line can run mango.
NABARD's 2023-24 credit plan for Vadodara lists the district among Gujarat's top contributors to guava, and names mango among its main fruit crops. The plan calls food and agro processing units a thrust area, with a potential of 137.70 crore, and points to high post-harvest losses in fruit and vegetables. Guava spoils quickly, so a local pulp unit gives growers a steadier buyer in glut weeks.
You need an FSSAI food licence, sorting tables, a pulper, a steam kettle, a heating and filling line, and your own or rented cold storage. The hard part is the short season and cash. You must buy and process most of the fruit in a few months, then hold stock and wait for buyers to pay. Seeds, browning and poor hygiene can spoil whole batches.
