For 2023-24, NABARD estimates Kaithal district can absorb about Rs 8,963.57 crore of priority-sector credit. Farming and its allied lines make up the bulk — Rs 7,126.33 crore (about 80%) — while loans to micro, small and medium businesses (MSME) account for another Rs 1,358.49 crore.
Kaithal is Haryana's well-known 'rice bowl'. Ordinary crop loans for paddy, wheat, sugarcane, cotton and pulses alone come to Rs 4,962.44 crore.
