Metal and casting testing lab for foundries and builders

This lab tests metal for the people who make and buy it. It checks what a steel or casting is made of (with a spark spectrometer), how strong it is (by pulling and bending samples on a testing machine), how hard it is, and whether castings and welds hide cracks (with ultrasonic and dye tests that do not damage the part). It issues signed test reports.

NABARD's 2023-24 credit plan for Ranchi puts MSME credit potential at Rs 5064.56 crore, its largest sector, and counts around 540 industrial units in general engineering, foundry, electrical and steel casting. Machined, certified parts earn more than plain fabrication, and certification starts with test reports. The capital also has steady building work, and contractors on government jobs must get their steel bars tested.

You need rented industrial space, testing machines, a trained metallurgist and technicians, and accreditation from NABL, the national lab accreditation board, which takes months of audits. The hard part is the long wait before orders become steady. Buyers trust a lab only once it is accredited, some labs in Ranchi already test building steel, and established labs in Jamshedpur and elsewhere serve the big plants.
