This plant pulls flavour and active compounds out of pepper, ginger, turmeric, cardamom and other spices using carbon dioxide under very high pressure, instead of chemical solvents. When the pressure is released, the gas escapes and leaves a clean extract behind. The plant can sell its own tested extracts, and also process spice for smaller traders on job work (they bring the spice, you charge per batch).
Spice oleoresins are Ernakulam's One District One Product, and Kochi has long been where Kerala's spice trade meets world markets. Still, much regional spice leaves raw, and much of the extract made here ships as bulk material. Supplement and natural flavour makers pay more for tested extracts with no solvent traces.
You need an FSSAI licence, a factory licence, consent from the pollution control board, safety certification for the pressure vessels, a quality lab, and registration with the Spices Board to export. The equipment is costly, uses a lot of power and needs trained operators. The hardest part is buyer approval: large buyers test samples and audit your plant for months before ordering. Raw spice prices also swing, so avoid holding big stocks.
