Industrial valve repair and testing workshop

This workshop repairs and tests industrial valves: the gate, globe and ball valves that control flow in pipes, and the safety valves that release pressure before a pipe or tank bursts. The work includes stripping, cleaning, lapping (grinding the sealing faces smooth), fitting new seals and springs, pressure-testing on a test bench, and issuing a test report.

Ernakulam is Kerala's main heavy-industry district. The oil refinery at Ambalamugal, the fertiliser and chemical plants at Eloor on the Periyar, and the ship repair yards in Kochi all depend on valves that wear out or need regular safety checks. Smaller factories with boilers, such as rubber, plywood and food units, need the same service. NABARD's credit plan also names fabrication among the district's industry clusters.

You need a covered workshop, a hydraulic test bench, lapping machines, lifting gear, calibrated gauges and trained fitters. Large plants hire only firms on their approved vendor list, which needs a track record, safety training and paperwork, so start with smaller factories. Much of the big work comes in bursts during planned plant shutdowns. A badly set safety valve can cause an accident, so strict checks and insurance are a must.
