This unit buys raw gram (chana) from farmers and traders. It cleans and grades the grain, splits it into chana dal, and grinds part of it into besan (gram flour). Products go out in bulk bags to food businesses and in small packs to shops.
NABARD's 2023-24 credit plan for Bhopal names wheat, gram and soybean as the district's key crops and urges more processing of farm produce. It warns that pulses and oilseeds have been over-produced while food-processing capacity is thin, so farmers do not get fair prices. A local mill gives them a nearby buyer and keeps the processing work in the district.
You need a shed with steady three-phase power, a cleaner and grader, a dal splitting line, a besan grinder, packing machines, an FSSAI licence, and a trader licence if you buy in the market yard. The hard part is working money: you must buy grain after harvest and hold it for months, and gram prices swing with the crop and government buying. Some besan in the market is mixed with cheaper flour, so buyers test for purity; clean, consistent product is your edge.
Sell besan and dal in bulk to sweet shops, hotels, namkeen makers and wedding caterers in Bhopal, and to wholesale grocers. Later, add your own small packs for local stores.
