This small workshop makes finished zardozi pieces under its own label: batuas and potli bags, clutches, bridal dupatta borders and gift boxes. You buy fabric, metal thread, beads and sequins, give the embroidery to trained artisans, and do the stitching, lining and packing yourself.
Zari-zardozi is Bhopal's One District One Product, and the craft lives in artisan homes and small old-city units. The batua, a small drawstring purse often covered in zardozi, is one of the city's best-known crafts. Today most embroiderers are paid by the piece for work on cloth sent by exporters and designers who keep the brand and shop margin. Selling finished, labelled pieces keeps more of that money here. The city's lakes, mosques and museums also bring visitors who want a local craft to take home.
You need a well-lit room, a few embroidery frames (adda), a sewing machine and working money for thread and fabric. The hard part is steady quality, fair and on-time pay to artisans, and cheap machine-made copies that look similar online. Sales bunch up in the wedding season, so plan stock and cash for the quiet months.
Sell at wedding exhibitions and craft fairs. Also sell in hotel and museum shops, and online with photos and short videos. Wedding planners and boutiques can order return gifts in bulk.
