NABARD's 2023-24 credit plan for Indore makes dairy the biggest area for farm investment loans, at Rs 554.78 crore, and lists the absence of milk routes and milk-marketing facilities in large parts of the district as a gap. It also pushes better milk cattle, which should mean more milk to collect. Indore city's homes, sweet shops and hotels are a big nearby market.
You need a village site with power, a bulk milk cooler, backup power, an electronic milk tester and a tanker tie-up. The hard part is quality and trust: watered or adulterated milk, power cuts that spoil a batch, and paying farmers on time every week even when your buyer pays late. The district's milk cooperative and private dairies already collect in many villages, so choose villages they do not reach, and get a written supply deal with a dairy before you start.
