This workshop repairs fishing boats. It services diesel and outboard engines, fixes winches, propellers and shafts, does basic welding, and gets boats ready before the fishing season opens.
Fisheries is the only farm activity in Mumbai City. NABARD's 2023-24 credit plan puts fisheries credit potential at ₹8002.28 cr and ties it to fishing boats of every kind, from trawlers and purse seine boats to gill-net and bag-net boats, both mechanised and non-mechanised. It counts 43000 fishermen and about 450 fishermen's cooperative societies, with fishing concentrated in the Koliwadas at Cuffe Parade, Worli and Mahim.
What it takes: at least one trained marine diesel mechanic, a welder, a small lathe and welding set, a stock of common spares, and a shed close to a landing point such as Sassoon Dock or the Ferry Wharf. You will need a shop licence, and permission if you work inside a port or fisheries area. The hard parts are finding space on the waterfront, the rush of work just before the season reopens after the monsoon ban, and owners who ask for credit until their catch is sold.
Get work through cooperative societies, boat owners' groups and engine dealers who need a local service partner. Fast, honest repairs build a name quickly in close-knit fishing villages.
