This is a small guided-walk business: two- to three-hour walks on foot through South Mumbai, led by trained local guides and sold to tourists, college groups, office teams and cruise passengers.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and so are the Victorian Gothic and Art Deco buildings around the Oval Maidan and Marine Drive. The island also holds the old port and dock estates, the early-morning fish auctions at Sassoon Dock, and the fishing villages (Koliwadas) at Cuffe Parade, Worli and Mahim, which NABARD's 2023-24 credit plan names as the home of the district's fishing community. The international cruise terminal at Ballard Pier brings visitors with only a few hours ashore.
What it takes: sound local history, spoken English plus Hindi or Marathi, a first-aid kit, small radio headsets for groups and a simple booking page. The hard parts are competition, since several walk companies already work these streets, and the slow monsoon months. Docks and fishing areas need permission, photography there may be restricted, and the people who work there must be treated with respect.
Sell through online travel listings, hotel front desks in Colaba and Fort, cruise shore-trip desks and colleges. A walk nobody else runs, such as the fishing villages at dawn, helps you stand out, and reviews drive most bookings.
