A pack house takes grape bunches from vineyards, trims and grades them, packs them in export cartons, and chills them in a pre-cooling room (strong cold air that pulls out field heat within hours). The grapes then wait in cold storage for refrigerated containers.
Nashik is India's largest grape producer and exporter. NABARD's 2023-24 credit plan for Nashik says grape exports reached 1.43 lakh tonne, mostly to the Netherlands, Germany and the UK. The same plan lists a shortage of grading and packing units, testing labs, pre-cooling units and cold storage, and says most exports go through traders rather than direct exporters. It puts storage, market yards, godowns and cold chains at Rs 201.68 crore of credit potential.
You need land in the grape belt of Niphad or Dindori, a strong power connection with backup, trained grading staff and pack house recognition from the government's farm export agency. The hardest part is that Europe tests grapes for spray residue, so every farm you pack for must be registered for export and keep proper spray records. A rejected container is a heavy loss. The export season is short, so use the cold rooms for pomegranate, vegetables or flowers in other months.
