This centre owns a narrow orchard tractor, a tractor-drawn air-blast sprayer (a machine that blows a fine mist of spray through the vines), a mulcher and a rotavator, and hires them out with a trained driver by the hour or by the acre.
Nashik is India's largest grape producer and also grows pomegranate, and both crops need frequent, well-timed spraying. NABARD's 2023-24 credit plan for Nashik puts farm mechanisation at Rs 299.85 crore of credit potential and plantation and horticulture at Rs 424.92 crore. It also notes that the average holding here is 1.67 ha. On a farm that size, owning a full set of machines rarely pays.
You need a shed near the vineyard belt, a driver who can set the sprayer correctly and handle chemicals safely, and a simple phone booking system. The hard part is that everyone wants the sprayer on the same days, after rain or a disease alert. A missed spray can cost a grower the crop, so they will only trust you if you turn up on time. Plan routes carefully. Machines wear fast in chemical work, and a breakdown in peak season loses money and customers.
