This unit buys milled Indrayani and Ambemohar rice from farms, small mills and farmer groups in the western hill talukas, then cleans, grades and packs it in sealed bags labelled with the village and harvest season.
Both rice types are grown in the rain-fed hill valleys of Maval, Mulshi and Bhor, a short drive from Pune city. NABARD's 2023-24 credit plan for Pune lists Indrayani and Ambemohar rice among the district's signature produce for export support, and names Maval and Mulshi among the blocks where it has promoted farmer producer organisations (FPOs). Buying from these groups gives you supply you can trace to the farm.
You need an FSSAI food licence, a small rented shed, a destoner (removes small stones), a grader (separates broken grains), a moisture meter and a bag sealer. The hard part is trust. Buyers worry that rice sold under famous names may be mixed with cheaper grain, so your whole business rests on buying carefully, checking every lot and never blending. You must also buy most of the year's stock after harvest and keep it safe from damp and insects, which ties up money.
Sell through housing society stalls, local grocery shops, organic stores and your own phone and online orders in Pune. A monthly home delivery for regular families builds repeat buyers.
