Champhai, the 'Rice Bowl of Mizoram' and a gateway for India-Myanmar border trade, has a total priority-sector credit potential of Rs 123.46 crore for 2022-23. Agriculture and allied activities make up about a third of the plan at Rs 45.37 crore, while MSME is the single biggest sector at Rs 55.03 crore (44%) as more people take up retail, handicrafts, handloom, carpentry and small enterprises - most of them run by women who are strong traders.
On the farm side, the biggest openings are in livestock: sheep, goat and piggery (Rs 10.01 crore), poultry (Rs 4.00 crore) and dairy (Rs 2.00 crore), backed by nearly 24,000 cross-bred pigs. Champhai district is one of the eleven districts of Mizoram state in India. The district is bounded on the north by Churachandpur district of Manipur state, on the west by Saitual and Serchhip districts, and on the south and east by Myanmar. The district occupies an area of 3,185.83 km2 (1,230.06 sq mi). Champhai town is the administrative headquarters of the district.
