Tuensang has the largest concentration of cane and bamboo furniture artisans in NE India, plus distinctive Chang and Yimchunger weaving. A producer cluster scaling these for urban-design retail captures both streams.

Tuensang is one of Nagaland's largest districts and the heart of cane-furniture production — a multi-tribe cluster where Chang, Yimchunger, Khiamniungan, and Sangtam communities have produced cane chairs, baskets, and decor for generations. Production is informal; most output sells locally or to traders at low prices. A producer cluster organising 50–80 artisans and providing improved tooling, finishing materials, design support, and shared D2C retail reaches metro home-decor buyers at 4–6× local prices.
Capex of ₹8–18 lakh covers shared workshops, finishing equipment, packaging, and digital storefront. The National Bamboo Mission (NBM) supports cane-and-bamboo cluster development; NHDP funds the textile component. The DCH provides additional design-input grants. Hard parts: design talent, finishing quality consistency, and shipping logistics. Start with one product range (cane chairs typically) and one mainland buyer commitment before broadening.
