This is a carving workshop that sells finished, made-to-order stonework: home-temple frames, deity figures, carved wall panels, door frames, fountains, garden pieces and pillars. Machines do the rough cutting and polishing, and skilled carvers do the fine work by hand.
Stone carving is on Khordha's one-district-one-product list, and Bhubaneswar is known as the Temple City for its many old carved stone temples. Local carvers mostly sell rough or half-finished work to traders who market it elsewhere. Selling finished, designed pieces straight to buyers keeps more of the price in the district. NABARD's 2023-24 credit plan sees ₹1968.75 crore of possible bank lending for housing in Khordha, citing rapid urbanisation, and new homes, hotels and offices need finishing and decor.
You need a shed with space to store heavy stone, cutting and polishing machines, a chain hoist, Udyam (small business) and GST registration, and pollution board consent for dust and noise. Buy stone only from licensed quarries with proper transport papers. The hard part is safety and transport: stone dust harms the lungs, so use wet cutting and good masks. Heavy pieces can break on the road, and project buyers often pay late.
