This is a small studio that sells palm-leaf engraving as made-to-order gifts. A customer picks a name, a date, a verse or a short message. Engravers scratch it into dried, treated palm leaf with an iron pen, then rub in black colour so the lines show. The studio frames, packs and ships each piece.
Palm-leaf engraving is one of Khordha's one-district-one-product crafts. Most engravers sell cheaply to traders. NABARD's 2023-24 credit plan for the district says the handicraft sector has no organised way to reach buyers. This leaves artisans with very small margins.
