Mahe sits on Kerala's coir belt but its tiny size means everything currently moves to Kannur for processing. A small coir-rope and coconut-oil micro-unit captures local-source value-add and sells to mainland eco-product brands.

Mahe — Puducherry's Kerala-coast enclave at Mahé Pondicherry — has the typical Malabar coir belt economics: lots of coconut, lots of coir fibre, almost no on-site processing. Most output moves to Kannur or Kasaragod for spinning, ropes, and value-add. A small unit running a coir-spinning machine plus a cold-press coconut oil expeller takes locally-sourced output and sells coir-rope, mat, and bottled virgin coconut oil under a a Mahe-origin brand to eco-product retailers and online buyers.
Capex of ₹5–12 lakh covers a coir spinner, oil expeller, and packaging. The Coir Board's MMS scheme provides direct subsidy for spinning equipment; PMFME for the oil component. The hard parts: small operating scale, sourcing reliable coconut and coir fibre at predictable prices, and brand-building (Mahe is small; the geographic story has to be the wedge). Realistic: a 2–3 person family unit, modest revenue at ₹1.5–3 lakh/month gross, comfortable lifestyle business rather than scaled venture.
