Paddy is one of Ludhiana's main crops. NABARD's credit plan for the district records about 12.64 lakh tonnes of paddy in 2021-22, and across Punjab much of the straw is still burnt so fields can be cleared for wheat. The hard part is the short window: straw must be baled in the few weeks between the paddy harvest and wheat sowing, rain can spoil it, and a straw yard is a serious fire risk. Factory buyers want dry straw of steady quality and may pay late. Ask the district agriculture office what help is open for straw-handling machines.
