This unit makes finished bedding: Jaipuri razais (light quilts hand-filled with fine cotton), dohars (thin summer quilts), bedsheets and pillow cases. All are printed by hand with wooden blocks. You buy plain cotton cloth, print it, fill and stitch the quilts, and pack them ready for sale.
Jaipur is known for both the razai and hand block printing. Printers in Sanganer and Bagru have the skills, and Bagru is known for its mud-resist and natural-dye prints. Much of this work is sold as unbranded fabric to traders who add the retail margin. Doing the whole job yourself, from print to finished quilt, keeps more of the final price in the district.
You need long printing tables, blocks, dye tanks, a machine to open and fluff the cotton filling, sewing machines and a covered drying area. Dyeing and washing produce coloured wastewater, a known pollution problem around Sanganer, so get consent from the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board and treat the water properly, or send dyeing to a printer who already has treatment. The hard parts are keeping colours the same from batch to batch and paying for stock months before the winter selling season.
