This mill buys mustard seed from local farmers and markets, cleans it, and presses it slowly in kachi ghani (cold-press) machines that keep the oil's sharp smell and taste. It filters and packs the oil in bottles and tins, and sells the leftover oil cake as cattle feed.
NABARD's 2023-24 credit plan for Jaipur lists mustard among the district's main crops and puts food and agro processing at Rs 740.02 crore of credit potential. The same plan asks the District Industries Centre and banks to promote oil mills to add value to farm produce. It also counts 2398 milk cooperative societies in the district, a ready market for oil cake. Jaipur city is the main market for the oil.
You need an FSSAI food licence, a shed with a dry seed store, oil presses, a filter press, a filling and sealing machine, and enough cash to buy seed after harvest. The hard parts are trust, price and competition. Mustard oil mixed with cheaper oils is a known problem, so test every batch and label honestly. Seed prices swing each season, and you compete with many mills and big packed brands.
Sell to grocery shops, housing societies, restaurants and dhabas in Jaipur, and from a shop at the mill. Sell oil cake to dairy farmers and milk societies nearby.
