Pratapgarh is the only home of GI-protected Thewa — gold-leaf-fused-on-glass work made by the Soni community for generations. The district already holds the craft skill (its Thewa gold-on-glass jewellery atom); what it lacks is a branded route from artisan benches to GI-luxury retail and exports, which is exactly the Thewa branded-luxury gap. A producer company organising 30-40 artisans builds a tight collection — pendants, cufflinks, brooches, framed panels — photographs and certifies them under the GI mark, and sells via curated D2C, premium gifting and Gulf/US-diaspora wholesale rather than competing on volume. The work is aggregation and market access: standardising gold purity and a buyback-secured gold-supply line, hallmarking, packaging that survives shipping, and storytelling that justifies the premium. Honest constraints: Thewa skill takes years so the artisan base cannot be expanded quickly, gold working capital is heavy, and reaching global jewellery buyers is slow relationship-building — traction realistically takes about three years.
