What the plan promotes

• ▸Turmeric value chain: about 25,633 MT produced across Kesamudram, Nellikuduru, Mahabubabad, Narasimhulapet, Chinnagudur, Kuravi, Thorrur, Gudur and Maripeda mandals — the district's standout cash crop for grading, processing and marketing units.
• ▸Crop production, maintenance and marketing carries ₹1,688.77 cr of credit potential (57% of the plan), led by paddy, maize, cotton, chillies and redgram alongside turmeric.
• ▸Dairy is the largest allied opportunity at ₹116.06 cr — the PLP recommends large-scale dairy loans with tie-ups to milk cooperative societies.
• ▸Sheep, goat and piggery rearing at ₹69.03 cr, with sheep-breeding societies concentrated in Maripeda, Narasimhulapet and Mahabubabad mandals; room to form new cooperatives in the remaining blocks.
• ▸Poultry at ₹67.77 cr and plantation/horticulture including sericulture at ₹71.46 cr round out the allied term-loan opportunities.
• ▸Food and agro-processing (₹28.38 cr) at the district headquarters, which the PLP rates as suitable for agro-processing and value-addition, leveraging the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF) and PMEGP.

Gaps the plan names

• ▸Inadequate scientific storage near the farm gate — the PLP calls for warehouses, godowns and cold chains close to fields and financing of Negotiable Warehouse Receipts.
• ▸Weak irrigation and falling groundwater — irrigation depends on tube wells and dug wells; the plan urges groundwater recharge, water-saving devices and micro-irrigation.
• ▸Low farm mechanization and poor soil health hurting crop productivity, alongside indiscriminate use of fertilizers and pesticides (organic farming is suggested as a fix).
• ▸Poor recovery under government-sponsored programmes and inadequate capital formation, needing coordinated review at JMLBC/DCC/DLMC.
• ▸Patchy rural infrastructure — water-harvesting structures, custom hiring and agro-service centres, and private investment in rural godowns, cold storages and seed-processing units are all in short supply.
