What the plan promotes

• ▸Hamirpur is the gateway to Bundelkhand; 74.53% of area is farmed, net sown area 294087 ha with only 150390 ha (51%) irrigated; 47.99% of holdings are under 1 hectare.
• ▸Crop production dominates with Rs 1351.98 cr potential; main crops wheat, gram, peas, lentil, sesame, arhar, moong and sugarcane; no single major cash crop.
• ▸Farmers are shifting to hybrid vegetables, papaya, lemon, sweet-lime (mausambi), guava and medicinal plants; district has high potential in papaya, guava, vegetables, mentha and medicinal crops.
• ▸Livestock and allied are a big opportunity: poultry Rs 116.49 cr, dairy Rs 53.31 cr, fisheries Rs 24.34 cr and sheep/goat/piggery Rs 18.92 cr; NABARD gave a separate FPO sanction to promote goat rearing.
• ▸Farm mechanisation carries the largest term-loan potential at Rs 196.22 cr.
• ▸One District One Product: Sumerpur block is chosen for its famous footwear, needing skilled artisans; MSME potential Rs 459.20 cr.

Gaps the plan names

• ▸Agriculture is largely rain-fed; only 51% of net sown area is irrigated, so irrigation coverage and water resources need strengthening.
• ▸Weak storage and marketing infrastructure for agri produce; the PLP calls for organised markets and special efforts on fruit processing.
• ▸Extension network needs strengthening in every block, with soil-testing laboratories, technology transfer and on-farm demonstrations for better implements and machinery.
• ▸Animal health services need improvement, more milk routes/collection points, and setting up of poultry and fish hatcheries and fish markets.
• ▸Industries face inadequate/interrupted power supply; the district also needs to tap solar energy on a large scale.
