This is a hire service. You own one or two farm spraying drones and a small vehicle, and farmers pay you by the acre to spray crop medicines and liquid plant food. A drone covers a field far faster than a backpack pump, uses less water and keeps workers out of the spray.
NABARD's 2023-24 credit plan for Lucknow names drones, along with other new farm technology, as a priority, and sets farm mechanisation lending at Rs. 74.80 crore. Beyond the city, blocks such as Malihabad, Mal, Kakori and Bakshi ka Talab still grow grain, vegetables and large mango orchards. Lucknow's colleges are a ready source of young trainee pilots.
You need a remote pilot certificate from a DGCA-approved training school (the DGCA is the civil aviation regulator) and a registered drone. You must also know which crop medicines are cleared for drone spraying and at what dose. Work comes in short seasonal rushes, and batteries and repairs cost money. Some women's self-help groups and fertiliser companies already offer drone spraying at low rates, so check your area first. Spray does not reach well inside tall mango trees, so be honest with growers about that.
Find customers through farmer producer groups, seed and fertiliser shops and village demonstration days. Book several farms in one village on the same day.
