MSME (micro, small & medium enterprises)
₹617 cr
Term loans for agriculture & allied activities
₹202 cr

Mainpuri's 2023-24 credit plan sizes up ₹3,060.68 crore of lending potential. Agriculture dominates with ₹2,227.81 crore (about 73%), while MSMEs (small businesses and industry) account for ₹617 crore. The rest covers housing (₹98.76 cr), education (₹30.15 cr), social infrastructure (₹48.68 cr) and smaller lines.
The biggest single opportunity is ordinary crop loans at ₹1,758.97 crore for wheat, paddy, maize, potato, bajra and mustard — Mainpuri is known for potato, garlic and groundnut. On the investment side, dairy stands out at ₹95.13 crore (the district is famous for dairy), followed by farm machinery loans at ₹50.74 crore and water/irrigation at ₹22.26 crore.
A clear cluster is post-harvest handling: ₹172.80 crore for storage and market infrastructure (godowns, cold storage, market yards) plus ₹72.70 crore for food and agro-processing, building on an existing base of 1,044 flour mills and 211 rice mills. The district's stated thrust for the year is integrated (mixed) farming and grouping farmers into producer organisations.
The plan is honest about what holds the district back: roughly 95% of farms are small or marginal, and farmers face shortages of good seed, fertiliser, veterinary services and steady electricity. Weak storage, cold-chain and logistics, plus limited access to agri-business know-how, keep incomes lower than the land could support.
What the plan promotes
- Crop-production credit is the single biggest opportunity at 1758.97 cr; main crops are wheat, paddy, maize, potato, bajra and mustard (district is well known for potato, garlic and groundnut).
- Dairy is the largest allied opportunity at 95.13 cr term-loan potential; Mainpuri is famous for dairy development.
- Farm mechanisation term loans of 50.74 cr, reflecting a push to modernise the largely small and marginal farm base.
- Storage and agri-marketing infrastructure of 172.80 cr (warehouses, godowns, market yards, silos, cold-storage chains) is the district's flagged thrust area.
- Food and agro-processing credit of 72.70 cr; existing base includes 1044 flour mills and 211 rice mills.
- MSME credit potential of 617.00 cr split into 429.25 cr term loans and 187.75 cr working capital.
Gaps the plan names
- About 95% of land holdings are small and marginal, keeping farming traditional and slowing the shift to agri-business.
- Shortage of key inputs and services: quality/improved seed, fertiliser, veterinary services and reliable electricity supply.
- Weak basic infrastructure for sub-sectors such as land development, minor irrigation and animal husbandry needs targeted investment.
- Storage, cold-chain and logistics capacity for agri produce is inadequate, limiting better post-harvest prices.
- Resource shortages and mindset barriers hold farmers back from moving toward agri-business and aggregation through producer organisations.
