You run guided day trips from Jammu city to the Octroi border post at Suchetgarh, where the Border Security Force holds a retreat parade on set days of the week, and to Gharana wetland near R.S. Pura, where large flocks of migratory birds, including bar-headed geese, spend the winter. A walk through the basmati fields of R.S. Pura and a home-cooked Dogra lunch in a village turn it into a full day.

The hard parts: the birds come only from about November to March, parade days can change, and the border area can close to visitors at short notice when tension rises. Keep bookings flexible.
