Mysuru's Gokulam area is known around the world for Ashtanga yoga (a demanding style done in a set order of poses). Many foreign students come for courses lasting weeks or months and want to live close to their teachers. They need simple, clean, safe rooms more than hotel service, and some come back season after season. In slower months, rooms can go to Palace and Dasara visitors.
What it takes: a leased or owned house in a suitable area, furniture, a trade licence from the city corporation, and homestay or lodging registration where it applies. You must report every foreign guest online (the form most people still call Form C) within 24 hours of arrival, and again when they leave. The hard part is uneven demand. Bookings follow the yoga schools' teaching calendar and visa rules, so some months may be thin. Neighbours may also object to a busy guest house.
