This is a small workshop where skilled artisans make rosewood inlay pieces people can carry home or post: jewellery boxes, trays, pen stands, wall panels, name plates and small table tops. Designs can use classic Mysuru motifs such as the Dasara elephant procession, set in coloured woods and ivory substitutes.
Rosewood inlay is one of Mysuru's One District One Product crafts and carries a GI tag (a legal mark tying a product to its home region). The district has a deep base of skilled inlay artisans, yet some local rosewood still leaves as raw or lightly worked timber, while finished inlay sells for far more.
What it takes: basic woodworking tools, a dust-free finishing corner, GST registration, and fair, regular pay, because skilled inlay hands are hard to find and slow to train. Printing the GI name on your label needs registration as an authorised user. The other hard part is legal wood. Rosewood is tightly controlled in Karnataka, so buy only from licensed sellers or forest-department sales with proper transit papers and keep records. Real ivory is banned, and export orders can need extra permits.
Buyers are tourists near the Palace, hotel gift shops, companies buying festival and client gifts, and online shoppers. Reach them through a small showroom corner, corporate gift catalogues, good photos online and craft fairs.
