Mizoram has 26% of India's bamboo cover but exports almost all of it raw to Assam and Tripura processors. A small Aizawl unit producing engineered bamboo boards (laminated panels for furniture) captures the highest-value link in the chain.

Mizoram is sitting on what should be the largest bamboo manufacturing economy in India — 1.6 million hectares of bamboo cover, more than any state. The reality: most exits raw or semi-processed to Assam and Tripura where the engineered-board, ply, and furniture units capture 4–6× the value. An Aizawl unit producing engineered bamboo boards (laminated, formaldehyde-free, plywood-grade) sells to mainland furniture and construction buyers at ₹85+/sq ft against raw bamboo at ₹15/kg.
Capex of ₹25–50 lakh covers strip-cutting, laminating press, kiln, and packing — small footprint by furniture-board standards. The National Bamboo Mission (NBM) gives up to 35% subsidy for primary processing units in NE states. CGTMSE backs collateral-free loans up to ₹2 cr. The hard parts: getting the laminating chemistry right (formaldehyde levels matter for export), supply contracts with bamboo cooperatives at fixed prices through the harvest, and Mizoram's logistics tax (everything ships via Silchar at premium freight). Start with one panel SKU and one mainland buyer commitment before scaling.
